Tara Brach is a psychologist, meditation teacher and author of Radical Acceptance (2003) and True Refuge: Finding Peace & Freedom in Your Own Awakened Heart (2013). Founder of the Insight Meditation Community of Washington, DC, Tara’s teachings blend Western psychology and Eastern spiritual practices, mindful attention to our inner life, and a full, compassionate engagement with our world. Through workshops and retreats for lay people and mental health practitioners, along with her many audio talks and videos, she addresses the value of meditation in relieving emotional suffering and serving spiritual awakening. Tara has a son and lives in Great Falls, VA, with her husband and their 2 dogs.
Sarah Napthali is the author of the Buddhism for Mothers series published by Allen & Unwin which has been translated into nine languages to date. She has recently completed a Graduate Diploma in Psychology from Macquarie University as well as the first draft of a book called Buddhism for Couples about applying Buddhist teachings in a long-term relationship. Practising in the Western Insight tradition, Sarah strives to apply Buddhist teachings to her role as mother, wife and friend. She believes relationships – in all their complexity, messiness, joy and volatility – make excellent ground for spiritual practice if we are awake enough to perceive their lessons.
KRISTIN NEFF, PH.D.
Kristin Neff , Ph.D. is an Associate Professor, in the Dept. of Educational Psychology, University of Texas. During Kristin’s last year of graduate school in 1997 she became interested in Buddhism, and has been practicing meditation ever since. She has conducted pioneering research on self-compassion and developed an 8-week program to teach self-compassion skills with Chris Germer at Harvard University: Mindful Self-Compassion. Her book titled “Self-Compassion” was published in 2011. Kristin was featured in the best-selling book and award-winning documentary called The Horse Boy which chronicles her family’s adventure with autism.

Rick Hanson, Ph.D., is a neuropsychologist and author of Hardwiring Happiness, Buddha’s Brain, Just One Thing and Mother Nurture. Founder of the Wellspring Institute for Neuroscience and Contemplative Wisdomand on the Advisory Board of the Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley, he’s been an invited speaker at Oxford, Stanford, and Harvard, and taught in meditation centers worldwide.
DR CRAIG HASSED
Dr Craig Hassed is a General Practitioner and Senior Lecturer at the Monash University. His interests include mindfulness-based stress management, mind-body medicine, meditation, health promotion, integrative medicine and medical ethics. Craig works internationally and was the founding president of the Australian Teachers of Meditation Association. He is the author of “New Frontiers in Medicine” “Know Thyself” “The Essence of Health” “General Practice: the integrative approach”, and “Mindfulness for Life”. Craig will be releasing a new book on the role of mindfulness in education early in 2014.
CHRISTINE CARTER, PH.D.
Best known for her weekly Happiness Tips, Christine Carter, Ph.D., draws on psychology, sociology, and neuroscience, and uses her own chaotic and often hilarious real-world adventures to demonstrate happiness do’s and don’ts in action. Author of RAISING HAPPINESS: 10 Simple Steps for More Joyful Kids and Happier Parents. Dr. Carter lead the Greater Good Science Center(GGSC) as the executive director and after five years in this role, she hired a new executive director so that she could pursue her writing and speaking career full-time. She remains a faculty affiliate and science writer at the GGSC.
Margaret Cullen is a senior teacher of Stanford’s Cultivating Compassion Training program, which she helped develop. She is a pioneer in the area of integrating mindfulness-based programs in business, health care and academic settings. She is a licensed therapist, educator and certified Teacher in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. She studied at Harvard University and is the author of innovative articles such as “Opening the Heart at Stanford, Google and Beyond” and “The Science of Goodness”.
DR ERIKA ROSENBERG
Dr. Erika Rosenberg is a senior teacher at Stanford Universities Centre for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education where she personally presented the Stanford compassion training program to His Holiness the Dalai Lama. She is also a world-renowned expert in facial expressions of emotion. At the Center for Mind and Brain at UC Davis, Dr. Rosenberg is a senior investigator on the Shamatha Project, a multi-disciplinary study of how intensive meditation affects cognition, emotion, and neurophysiology. She also consults with a variety of academic and non-academic clients on facial measurement using the Facial Action Coding System (FACS), teaches FACS workshops worldwide, and recently served as Scientific Consultant on the TV drama Lie to Me, on Fox.
Polly Young-Eisendrath is a psychologist, speaker, writer, Buddhist practitioner and Jungian analyst with a clinical and consulting practice in central Vermont. Polly’s writing— on the couple relationship, women’s development, parenting and psychotherapy practice— is aimed at practical applications of the insight and wisdom we can gain from meditation and self-awareness, whether we are on our mediation cushions or looking at our relationships with our children, parents, partners and friends. In Polly’s most recent book, The Self-Esteem Trap: Raising Confident and Compassionate Kids in an Age of Self-Importance, she offers an incisive analysis of the psychological, cultural and moral components of the widespread mistake of trying to inject self-esteem through over-praising or over-parenting. Her writing helps parents, teachers, and counselors— and the young adults who have grown up in a confusing “child-centered” environment— to recover the guidelines for real happiness and freedom in adulthood.
SYLVIA BOORSTEIN, PH.D.
Sylvia Boorstein, Ph.D. has been a psychotherapist since 1967 and a dharma teacher since the mid-1980s. She is a co-founding teacher of Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Woodacre, California and the author of five books on Buddhism and mindfulness, including Happiness Is An Inside Job: Practicing for a Joyful Life.
